A smoke stick is an electronic cigarette which allows nicotine into the body without all the other harmful chemicals that are also included in most cigarettes. Heigl started using them in a quest to stop smoking. Smoke sticks allow a user to get the nicotine as well as the repetition involved in bringing the cigarette to and from the mouth. The other benefit to using smoke sticks instead of cigarettes is that they produce no second hand smoke, making it safe for Heigl to smoke them while her one year old is around. Heigl later allowed David Letterman to try the product on set. Letterman certainly wasn’t impressed, himself an avid cigar smoker.
