The Fall Equinox

The first day of Fall this year is September 22nd

The first day of the fall equinox will be September 22nd 2010 this year. It is mainly only referred to as “Fall” in America, as it is usually called “Autumn” in other countries.

Did you know that Fall only happens this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere? It occurs on March 20th for those countries in the southern hemisphere.

In most climate zones, the season of Autumn tends to mark the change in climate from a warm one to a cold one. However, in some locations, this is not the case. For example in Florida, the weather is warm all year-round, so they do not actually see a change of season 4 times a year like many locations do.
