Although many of the election results for the 2010 Florida primary elections are not in yet, we can confirm that Representative Kendrick Meek, has won the primary over the political upstart Jeff Greene, who had a gigantic ad budget. This particular primary was one of the more bitter ones in the country.
Elsewhere, in the state of Florida elections got off to a rocky start. Rain which persisted all day in a large portion of the state meant a lighter than expected turnout at the polls. At one polling station at a recreation center in Brevard county, a suspicious package shut down voting for several hours as the building in Merritt Island was evacuated. Voters were then redirected to a separated voting station to cast their ballots for the Governor and US Senate. It turned out that the package was nothing dangerous and voting resumed later in the day.
Overall it has been a frustrating day in Florida for many. Between the rain, the generally negative campaigns being run, and the bomb scare, voters were a bit stressed it seemed.
