Although it has been almost 6 years since the tragic murder of Dimebag Darrell Abbott while he was performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, fans, and musicians alike are taking the time to remember him today on what would be his 44th birthday. Born on August 20th, 1966, Dimebag passed away at the young age of only 38. His legacy continues to live on through his work though.

Dimebag Darrell, who was a guitarist as well as one of the founding members of both Pantera and Damageplan passed away on December 8th 2004, after being shot 5 times on stage while he performed. That day several others working for the band, and watching the show were killed when gunman Nathan Gale committed this horrible crime.

Sirius/XM will remember Dimebag today, like they have done for for the previous 5 years on his birthday, with their annual “March of Dimeday,” special. Basically for 24 hours straight, the Liquid Metal channel will play only songs that they think Dimebag Darrell would want to hear.
